Remember When

Remember when… memories, life changing incidents, historical events, reasons to celebrate, and moments of regret. I think we humans are a nostalgic bunch. I mean, we like looking at family photos, and we’re continually adding to the ‘album’… think selfies and group selfies, this trend to capture daily life in an instant. Shared history and memories bring a sense of closeness between us, we’ve experienced something of life together, we have a bond. It seems we are wired to live in community, whether that be large or small, a life partner, family, a best buddy, some organization, a town, district, city, or even a nation, and increasingly we see ourselves as a part of the global community. Sometimes we look back with fondness, funny moments, tender ones, and miraculous interventions… remember when… but there are scary memories too, and sad ones, and those times when we feel we failed, we remember our mistakes and times of weakness. Funny, how more than one person can be remembering the same event, yet with a quite different perspective. We bring our own attitudes, emotional state, life experience I guess, into our remembering when. Interesting, God encourages us to remember when…
