This Promise Is For You

Promises, powerful and interesting things, of course at the heart they’re all about someone actually keeping their word. Something will be done, action will be taken, something’s going to happen. A promise is supposed to be a guarantee, a sacred, honoured word, a verbal insurance policy, a binding pledge. By its definition, a promise brings security and confidence. The excitement and power of a promise depends a lot on the promise giver. Weather forecasters can say that there’s the ‘promise’ of a sunny day, yet we all know that they have no control over the weather, their promise is simply based on the best available data… what about that friendly voice from a GPS app on your phone, she ‘promises’ the fastest route, but knows nothing of the rising flood waters that now block the road ahead! Promises are given and promises are received, they are a two party thing, like a contract, or the lasting promises of a covenant agreement. I love it when God says ‘this promise is for you…’, because he has an excellent track record, throughout history, of keeping his promises.
